ADVANCED SECURITY TRAINING COURSES

AST Course General Information:

  • The advanced security training course (AST) is a 24 hour course that was developed by the Justice Institute of British Columbia and the Security Programs and Security Programs Division of the British Columbia Ministry of Justice.
  • The course is designed for security professionals who, in the course of their duties may need to employ force response options or use restraints when confronted by high-risk, resistant or violent individuals.
  • These security professionals include but are not limited to loss prevention personnel, hospitals, door persons at licensed liquor establishments, and security personnel at airports and school campuses.
  • The goal of this course is to enable participants to safely, effectively, and lawfully restrain and control resistant or assaultive individuals who may have contravened a law or policy and whose behaviour poses a risk to themselves and others.
  • The registrar will authorize only a licensee holding a security worker license to carry and use restraining devices. This authority will be indicated as a condition on the security worker’s license

AST COURSE SCHEDULE FOR OCTOBER 2018

Day 1 = Saturday, October 20, 2018 commencing at 08:30 hrs.
Day 2 = Sunday, October 21,, 2018 commencing at 08:30 hrs.


NOVEMBER  AST  COURSE SCHEDULE 

Day 1 = Saturday, November 17, 2018 commencing at 08:30 hrs.
Day 2 = Sunday, November 18,, 2018 commencing at 08:30 hrs.

This will be our last AST course for this year.  Our next course will be in January or February 2019.


AST COURSE FEE = $295.00
**** If you can borrow an AST course manual from someone who has completed the course before,
your AST course fee will only be $275.00
(A saving of $20.00)

The $295.00 AST course fee includes the following:
$60.00 JIBC written examination fee;
$25.00 JIBC AST Student Manual;
 “FREE” of charge use of our handcuffs & keys;
 24 hours of professional instructions;
 Use of spacious training facility with access to FREE parking;
 “Free of Charge” use of full contact training equipment;
 Use of Olympic Style floor wrestling mats:
 “FREE OF CHARGE” employment assistance ;
 There are no other fees such as taxes, etc.


PLEASE NOTE:

☑ If you wish to take the course please register “ON LINE”.

We’ll not instruct a course unless four (4) students have registered and paid the AST course fee.

☑ All written AST course and/or AST re-certification course information on our web site is subject to change without prior notice.

☑ The AST course fee is non-refundable.

☑ To take the AST course you need to be in possession of a valid JIBC issued BST course certificate.

☑ If you have successfully completed the AST course with us and are interested in pursuing a career in the
BC Sheriffs or Federal/BC Correctional Services let us know. We’ll speak to you about preparing yourself for a career after you have successfully completed the AST course.   2. We will not accept “INCOMPLETE” registration forms.
  3. DO NOT PAY THE AST COURSE FEE UNTIL WE ASK YOU TO DO SO BY EMAIL (We do not instruct a course unless a minimum of four students have paid for the course!)

AST COURSE PAYMENT INFORMATION

OPTION # 1 = Pay the course fee ON LINE by CREDIT CARD via PayPal (e.g. Visa, MasterCard).

OPTION # 2 = Pay the course fee in CASH, by certified cheque or by money order in person at the St John Ambulance Academy located at 2058 Alpha Ave, Burnaby, BC (The facility is located next to the Brentwood Skytrain Station in Burnaby).

AST COURSE RECERTIFICATION INFORMATION

Although the requirements are to participate in eight (8) hours of instructions, we instruct the course over a period of 11 hours on a Sunday when we conduct the regular 24 hour AST course (Please refer to our AST course schedule above).

  1. The curriculum for the AST Re certification Course was developed by the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) and the Security Programs Division of the BC Ministry of Justice.
  2. This course is designed to have course participants review and be examined in all academic and physical skill training areas taught in the 24 hour AST course.
  3. Participants must attend all eleven (11) hours of the AST Re certification course and successfully complete the course.
  4. The AST Recertification course fee is “NON REFUNDABLE”!
  5. You will need to email us a copy of your JIBC AST certificate ( we need to see the expiration date)

AST COURSE RECERTIFICATION FEE = $150.00
If you can borrow an AST course manual from someone who has completed the course before,
your AST Re-certification course fee will only be $130.00
(A saving of $20.00)

The 8 hour AST Re certification course fee includes the following:
 $60.00 JIBC written examination fee;
 $25.00 JIBC AST Student Manual;
 “FREE” of charge use of our handcuffs & keys;
 Ten (10) hours of professional instructions;
 Use of spacious training facility with access to FREE parking;
 “Free of Charge” use of full contact training equipment;
 Use of Olympic Style floor wrestling mats:
 There are NO additional Fees such as: “GST or Provincial Sales Tax”

PLEASE NOTE:

 We’ll accept ONLY TWO (2) students for the AST Re certification course.
 We’ offer the AST Re certification course for a duration of 11 hours on the Sunday when we conduct a regular AST course (Please refer to our AST course schedule above).
 You must be in possession of the JIBC issued AST and BST Course Certificates (You need to email us a copy of your AST certificate so that we can determine the expiration date).
 You are required to produce two (2) valid picture ID.
 If you do not have the BST & AST Course Certificates you will need to contact the JIBC.
